Nisar Khan making hectic efforts to overcome revenue shortfall

ISLAMABAD: Following direction of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan has initiated hectic efforts to meet the revenue targets for running fiscal year and overcome the prevailing shortfall.

The chairman has also directed all chief commissioners and chief collectors to take extra-ordinary measures for enhancing revenue collection in order to overcome the shortfall. The chairman and Inland Revenue-Operation (IR) Member Dr Muhammad Irshad had decided to put special focus on Karachi to generate more revenue.

Sources said that Nisar Muhammad Khan and Dr Irhsad will visit Karachi in this week. Irshad will leave for Karachi today, while Nisar Khan would go on tomorrow. The member will hold meetings with chief commissioners of Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), Corporate RTOs and Large Taxpayers Units (LTUs) and review their efforts and performance regarding tax collections. He will also guide the tax officials for improve the tax collections.

The visit of both high ups of FBR held great significance, as they will also hold meetings with business community and representatives of banking sector, the sources said, adding that the visit was scheduled for last week, but it was postponed following the hearing of Panama leaks case.

During his expected visit to Karachi, the chairman would address chief collectors, collectors, additional collectors and deputy collectors.

It may be mentioned here that tax collection are according to the targets during second quarter, but the growth rate, which is essential for meeting targets, is not as per expectations.
