BEIJING: Ecuador is an important trade partner of China in South America.Bilateral trade was down 4.1 percent year-on-year in 2015 to 4.13 billion US dollars. In the breakdown, imports from Ecuador reached 1.24 billion dollars. That was up 16.4 percent from the previous year. China’s exports to Ecuador were off 10.9 percent to 2.89 billion dollars.
Ecuador mainly imports Chinese machinery, automobiles and steel products. China’s imports from Ecuador include crude oil, bananas and fish powder. Meanwhile, China’s investment to Ecuador hit 6.03 billion dollars in 2015 while Ecuador’s investment to China was 8.63 million dollars.
