DHAKA: Customs Intelligence officials have seized 1,100 air conditioners from Kamalgate area in Chittagong, for evading tax through false import declaration.
The air conditioners worth Tk10 crore were seized from a warehouse on Thursday morning. Confirming the matter, Customs Intelligence Director General Moinul Khan told the Dhaka Tribune: “The conditioners contain tags of General, LG, Panasonic and Media brands.”
He said: “Most of the unique serial numbers of the air conditioners are fake. Customers will be cheated if they purchase the products and the after sales service warranty will also not be applicable for those.”
“The owner produced fake import papers. Legal action will be taken against the people involved with it,” the DG said.
