KIEV: According to official information, Ukrainian barley exports dropped in September 2016, reports UkrAgroConsult. So, Ukrainian exporters supplied some 758.6 KMT of barley to foreign markets in September. This is down 36% from August and down 27% from September 2015 (1043 KMT).

Nevertheless, based on the first quarter of the season, barley exports from Ukraine are 1.8% higher than a year ago, totaling 2962.5 KMT. According to UkrAgroConsult data, Libya can be distinguished among this season’s key importers of Ukrainian barley: the country imported more for the three months of the season than for the entire marketing year of 2015/16 (475 KMT against 446 KMT in MY 2015/16).

In addition, Tunisia regained its position of a top importer of Ukrainian barley. The country purchased 133.25 KMT in July-September 2016/17 against 27.5 KMT in 2015/16. Last time, Tunisia bought that much barley from Ukraine as long ago as six years – it has preferred Russian barley in recent years. In the current season, while Russia has not yet intensified its barley exports, Ukraine has again become a key supplier of this cereal crop to the above-mentioned market. In addition, higher-than-last-year shipments of Ukrainian barley went to Jordan, Israel, Morocco, UAE, Lebanon, Turkey and other countries. Besides, Ukrainian exporters renewed deliveries to Kuwait’s market.
