SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Prado, owned by a bureaucrat, during an action at Kamoke check post.
Following the directions of Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan, Superintendent Tariq Rafique ordered Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar to constitute a team to check vehicles on road. The deputy superintendent constituted a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Syed Majid Raza, comprising constables Usama, Sajid Raza and Mubashir who started checking of vehicles on Grand Trunk (GT) Road, Gujranwala.
The team checked many vehicles meanwhile it intercepted a vehicle Toyota Prado bearing Registration No BS-9651. The team asked the owner of vehicle about documents of customs clearance but he could not produce the same.
The team impounded the vehicle and shifted to the office for further investigations. The officials released the owner of the vehicle after proper interrogation, besides registering a case against him under Customs Act, 1969.
Officials said that the impounded vehicle will also be sent for forensic test to complete the investigations. They added that case will be sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action, adding that the vehicle will be auction if case was decided in favour of the department.
When Customs Today contacted officials of Customs Intelligence to collect information about the owner of the impounded vehicle, it was informed that owner is a bureaucrat whose name could not be revealed until investigations are completed. They further said that department was taking action against accused persons without any discrimination.
