Leading cellular phone service provider in Malaysia to reach 98pc coverage

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara heard cellular phone service coverage in Malaysia reach 98 per cent while broadband coverage reaches 84 per cent.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Jailani Johari said that was possible after the completion of 949 telecommunication towers all over the country this year. The broadband coverage was possible following the construction of a tower under Project Time 3.

Jailani further said that government through the ministry was always carrying out efforts to improve telecommunication services in the country.The broadband access has increase from 2009 in 31.7 per cent to now 67.3 per cent. Broadband in Sabah reached 75 per cent in residential areas.

The construction of 79 telecommunication towers is completed and coverage is probable to reach 89 percent.
