Customs ASO seizes huge quantity of dried figs, offending vehicle worth Rs 6.8m

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Squad (ASO) of the Customs Collectorate has seized dried figs along with offending vehicle worth Rs 6.8 million.

Sources told Customs Today that the ASO received information that some smugglers were planning to smuggle a huge quantity of dry fruit from Peshawar to Punjab via GT Road Rawalpindi.

Sources said that after receiving the information the ASO squad established a picket on GT road near Burhan. The ASO team intercepted a Suzuki van bearing registration No. TT-791 coming from Peshawar and were heading towards Islamabad.

After completion of the search, the ASO squad found a huge quantity of dried figs. The net weight of dried figs is 1,280 kilograms while the approximate value of the item is Rs 80,640.

Sources said that ASO team also impounded the vehicle worth Rs 600.000 which was being used for transportation of the item.

It is also necessary to mention here that when ASO team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of dry fruit, he failed to provide any relevant documents.

The anti smuggling staff that conducted the operation comprises Superintendent Zargham Dil, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel, Inspector Asif and other staff.

Sources added that customs department is using all resources to curb smuggling and adopting comprehensive strategy against smugglers there are margin able decrease in smuggling attempts during current financial year 2016-17.

Sources said that The FIR has filed against the smugglers and further investigation is under process for further action sources said. Ends
