Director Transit Trade Suraiya Butt takes stern measures for foolproof security of cargo

KARACHI: Director of the Directorate General of Transit Trade Suraiya Ahmad Butt took vibrant steps to lower down the pilferage of retrograde North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) containers.

According to the source, Director Transit Trade Suraiya Ahmad Butt has directed the officers to adopt strict measures at all check posts from Chaman to Karachi to ensure foolproof security.

The source also informed that Director Suraiya Ahmad Butt chaired a high level meeting. The agenda of the meeting was to keep an eagle eye over the retrograde cargo, pilferage of NATO containers and setting up guideline for early clearance of the cargo.

Director Transit Trade Suraiya Ahmad Butt directed the officers that every container leaving for Afghanistan should be thoroughly checked, an alert of the container must be issued on immediate basis, close coordination with tracker companies must be ensured whereas from Chaman to Karachi security on all check posts must be beefed up, the source added.

The Director also asked for the strict checking of the seal at the time of containers departure. The officers gave detailed briefing on the current situation of the security of the NATO retrograde containers. The meeting was also attended by the principal appraisers and appraising officers who will submit a comprehensive plan within a week so that loopholes can be removed, the source said.

It is pertinent to mention that Director Suraiya Ahmad Butt earlier was looking after the affairs of the MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim as Collector as well as Collector of Collectorate of Adjudication-I. At both positions Suraiya Ahmad Butt rendered remarkable services.

It is also hoped that as Director Transit Trade will be taking revolutionary measurements in this department as well. Earlier, Wajid Ali spent more than three years as Director Transit Trade and ran the affairs of the Directorate Transit Trade in efficient manner.
