HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs yesterday (November 20) seized about 8 kilograms (kg) of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $9 million in Tai Po.
During an anti-narcotics operation conducted yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man in Tai Po and found in his residential premises the suspected cocaine part-concealed in four pieces of metal. The arrested man, who was aged 25 and claimed to be unemployed, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Fanling Magistrates Courts tomorrow (November 22).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
