Jhang ASO seizes generator, vehicle worth Rs 2.5m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Jhang has seized diesel generator 100KVA worth Rs 1.5 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 517,315, besides impounding vehicle being used for smuggling worth Rs 1 million during an action.

Following information received through Collector Zulfiqar Ali, the ASO staff intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No FSG- 3262 near new Bhakkar Bypass Road, Jhang loaded with foreign origin diesel generator. The vehicle was coming from Shah Jeewna and was going to Multan.

On the spot, Customs Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya asked the Mian Shahid, General Manager of M/s Khan Brother (Pvt) Limited to produce documents regarding legal import or lawful possession of the goods. He provided Goods Declaration No. 52 dated November 10, 2016. He was further asked to produce documents regarding legal import but he could not do the same. Therefore, the officials impounded the vehicle along with generator under Section 168, 16, 18, and 32 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with SRO No 499(1)2009.

The customs registered a case against the accused persons. The ASO team comprising Inspector Shaukat Khan, Muhammad Munir Ahmed, Khalid Ashraf Noor, Sepoys Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Ajmal, Ahmed Bux and others participated in the operation. The seizure report has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
