Customs Intelligence impounds smuggled Toyota Land Cruiser

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation’s special car cell has impounded a non-duty paid smuggled Toyota Land Cruiser V8 bearing fake registration number worth millions of rupees.

Sources said that the Customs Intelligence received information through informer that a non-duty paid vehicle, Toyota Land Cruiser V8 bearing fake registration No. BZ-923 Islamabad model 2000 having chassis No. UZJ1000054875 is parked in Street No. 25 F8/2, Islamabad.

In pursuance of the information, the staff of special car cell rushed to the spot who found the vehicle at the hinted place. Inspite of hectic efforts nobody came forward to claim the vehicle. Ultimately after waiting more than o4 hours, the vehicle was taken into the custody in presence of the witness and was shifted to the headquarters.

The chassis of the vehicle was physically examined and tallied with the record of import, Amnesty Scheme2013and auctioned vehicles available with this directorate general but no record of the same chassis number was found in existed data.

During the investigation, it was also found that the said registration No BZ-923 has been allotted to another vehicle having Chassis No. A1J310PK10002703 by the motor registration authority.

The special car cell impounded the Land Cruiser as unclaimed with the approval of competent authority for verification of its import status, payment of duty and taxes leviable and lab test. Officials said that the noose has been tightened on the smugglers in order to curb smuggling in country.
