FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled items worth Rs 3.875 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 1.9 million during third week of November 2016.
According to details, the intelligence team, following the directions of Deputy Director Riaz Hussain, conducted various raids to foil smuggling attempts in the region. The team registered three cases of smuggling against suspects.
The customs intelligence impounded Nissan brand generator 15-20-KVA (4-Nos) worth Rs735,000 involving customs duty Rs400,000, Pan parag (Guykha 20000), made in India 10-Bags and Reds (Virginia), brand Cigarettes worth Rs2,350,000 involving duty Rs980,715. The officials also confiscated foreign origin ceramic tiles (511-Cartons), 791.58 Sqm worth Rs790,000 involving customs and taxes duty Rs 592,500.
The customs has made confiscations under Section 156(1)89 and 90 ibid read with Section 3(1) (3) of the import and export Control Act, 1969, after the owners failed to produce documents showing the legal import of the items.
The intelligence officers, including Superintendent Muhammad Saifullah, Senior Intelligence Officer Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, and Sepoys Ajamal Hussain and Muhammad Musaddiq Ahmad participated in the raids. However, seizure reports have been submitted to adjudication department for further legal action.
