Zahid Khokhar reviews performance of field formations

KARACHI: Customs Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Zahid Khokhar chaired a meeting to review performance of the field formations, including Model Customs Collectorate Exports, Port Qasim (Exports), Gwadar and Hyderabad.

During the meeting, the chief collector was given a detailed briefing on performance by the authorities of the respective collectorates.

The collectors of Gwadar Customs and Hyderabad Customs informed the chief collectorthat the collectorates have taken effective measures in order to curb smuggling of contraband items in their regions.

The Hyderabad collector further added that strict policy and vigilance have been adopted by the customs officers, adding that various non-duty paid vehicles have been impounded in the vicinity of the collectorate.

“Around 22 non-duty paid vehicles were impounded by the Hyderabad Customs during a crackdown against smugglers during last two months,” the collector added.

The collector of Gwadar informed that a declined has been observed in smuggling of contraband items and Iranian petrol and diesel had been, adding that the customs officials are vigilant to thwarting illegal smuggling of contraband items.

Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar appreciated the performance of both collectorates and was of the view that revenue leakages should be plugged by taking more effective steps for foiling the smuggling of contraband items.
