BANGKOK: Developing digital workforce skills and embracing emerging big data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) are critical practical approaches organisations need to transform and survive the digital era, says a Japanese technology firm. “Digital technologies can help innovate business models, enhance competitiveness and generate new revenue opportunities,” said Yoshikuni Takashige, vice-president for marketing strategy at Fujitsu.
Accelerating the digitisation of business processes, transforming customer experiences and enhancing product leadership are also necessary components for transforming companies. Mr Takashige said Thailand has been a high-potential country in Asia for Fujitsu thanks to its steady economic growth. The country needs to embrace more technological advances to add value to the economy and sustain that growth, he said.
“Thailand’s economy has experienced dramatic increases in growth over the past three decades, but is seeing no massive, visible growth like during the glory days before,” said Mr Takashige. Logistics, manufacturing and healthcare sectors are likely to be early adopters of digital transformation strategies in Thailand, he said.
The second wave of digital technology will entail the growth of mobile internet devices to reach 10 billion by 2010. In the 2000s, the first wave saw over 1 billion people connect to the internet via mobile devices. “We are now moving into the third wave of technology with the Internet of Things,” said Mr Takashige. “In 2020, it’s estimated that the number of connected devices will reach 50 billion.”
