Gujranwala Customs Intelligence seizes 1,400 yard China origin cloths

SIALKOT: Custom Intelligence and Investigation Department, Gujranwala Region has seized 1,400 yard China origin cloth worth Rs 500,000 on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

Deputy Director Ali Zeb Khan received information about smuggling of cloth and he directed Superintendent Tariq Rafique to constitute a team to curb the smuggling.

Consequently, the Superintendent formed a team under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Sarwar. The intelligence officer along with his team constables Usama, Boota, Sajid Raza formed a check post on GT Road and started checking vehicles near Rahwali.

During the checking of vehicles the team intercepted a van which was coming from Rawalpindi and going to Lahore. The team searched van and recovered huge quantity of smuggled China cloth worth Rs. millions. The team asked the driver Hanif about booking documents of cloths but the he was failed to produce the same. He told that the loaded cloth from van stand of Rawalpindi and he does not know about booking documents of cloth.

Hence the team released driver with van and department will issued legal notice to manager of van stand as per customs laws. The team shifted confiscated cloth in the store of department office. The team will register a case and refer case before the Adjudication court for proceeding. If the court will announce judgment in the favor of department then the team will authorize to auction of confiscated cloth under customs laws and Customs Act 1969.
