COPENHAGEN: Lots of good news around the DSV Group this week as the Danish headquartered logistics group has achieved record tonnages of freight throughput for two of its British operating centres whilst, nearer to home, it has come to an agreement with the China based ZC Rubber Group and the German Pneuhage Group for the exclusive distributor rights to sell Westlake tyres in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
In the UK, DSV Road Ltd has announced that in September 2016, its Purfleet and Tamworth centres both handled over 10,000 tonnes of freight for the first time on record, with Tamworth repeating the landmark volumes in October. Simultaneously the Group’s UK Domestic network handled over 60,000 consignments for both September and October, which is the highest on record. Nick Trencher, Divisional General Manager for DSV UK Domestic commented:
“Volumes on our UK Domestic service are growing rapidly. We have had particular success with customers in the home improvement sector, automotive after-market sector and disposable healthcare products. Imports from continental Europe has also increased after the summer, as there is an ever-growing demand for products from the EU.
“The volumes [increase] can create challenges in respect of maintaining our high levels of service. However, during this time DSV has seen an increase in our OTIF (On Time In Full) distribution performance measurement, up to 98.2%, which we are delighted with. This has been achieved by an investment in personnel development, [and] with training designed to improve drivers’ understanding of OTIF. This measurement of quality creates a confident foundation for us to continually cope with increased volumes through our network.”
Meanwhile in Scandinavia DSV, which has been using Westlake tyres in its operational fleet since 2012, says it has been extremely satisfied with the performance of the tyres produced by one of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world and now DSV, Pneuhage and ZC Rubber have officially signed an exclusive contract giving DSV all distributor rights to sell Westlake tyres in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. DSV may now offer Westlake tyres to all contracted hauliers as well as to the commercial vehicle market.
Westlake has now also officially approved the use of Ultra-Seal in combination with its tyres. Ultra-Seal is a preventative tyre sealant liquid invented to protect tyres from leaks, punctures and blowouts. It seals most punctures as they happen, ensures heat reduction, extends tyre life by keeping the air pressure in the tyre, minimises tyre wear and reduces fuel consumption. It remains effective for the complete life of the tyre without having to undergo extra maintenance. Ultra-Seal is environmentally friendly and provides the driver with an extra safety factor.
Based on its own experience in using the tyres DSV, in close cooperation with Pneuhage (ZC Rubber’s official European distributor) will distribute a range of tyres suitable for trucks and trailers which will be available subject to stock at DSV’s workshops in Horsens, Denmark, Uusikaupunki, Finland, Gothenburg and Landskrona, Sweden. Special tyres will be available on request and can be delivered within 72 hours. Flemming Steiness, Deputy Equipment Manager, commented:
“This is a great achievement in further commercialising the relationship between DSV and ZC Rubber. Based on our extensive tests and the past good experiences with Westlake tyres, we have also decided to fit our new trailers with Westlake tyres. Add to that the insertion of Ultra-Seal into the tyres, and this creates an optimum cost-effective combination for us in our operational fleet-management.”
