Customs officials recover 50kg gold from female passenger

KARACHI: The Customs officials have foiled a smuggling bid and recovered 50kg gold from a female passenger coming from Dubai at Jinnah International Airport.

The Customs Department has launched a major crackdown at all the airports of the country and deputed vigilance teams to monitor international flights destined to Dubai, China and Bangkok, besides special checking at VVIP Lounge.

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, in a special meeting, said that the government has already launched a crackdown against illegal money changers and at the airports. He said that some unpatriotic elements have been involved in forex and bullion smuggling. The minister shared with the delegation that the DG FIA, FBR chairman, IB joint director and other senior officers concerned have been asked to take strict measures immediately against criminal elements involved in the smuggling of gold and currency.
