BRUSSELS: The Belgian cabinet has approved plans to expand the tax break for patents to cover more innovative products and technology, including software development.
The corporate tax deduction currently applies to income generated from patented assets and in future would also apply to income from copyright protected software. Belgian Digital Agenda minister Alexander De Croo said this will make it more attractive for Belgian companies to develop their software in Belgium and attract software developers to the country.
The tax break would also apply to software that is not commercialised or not covered by a patent. The proposal must still be approved by parliament before taking effect.
