AMMAN: Gov. Sam Brownback moved Monday to replace Secretary Nick Jordan of the Kansas Department of Revenue after appointing him as the new executive director of the governor’s economic advisory council.

Brownback said Jordan would leave the state’s tax collection agency Dec. 12 and take over the Governor’s Council on Economic Advisers. Jordan has served as revenue secretary since Brownback took office in 2011. He will be replaced in the Cabinet by Wichita resident Sam Williams, who recently led a group appointed by Brownback to recommend changes in the state’s system of estimating state tax revenue. “Sam Williams is well-qualified and well-suited to lead the Department of Revenue,” Brownback said. “With a wealth of knowledge from the private sector, his experience in business and management will equip him to serve in this position.”

Brownback said Jordan had proven leadership in the private and public sector and would be a good fit with the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers. It is a division of the Kansas Department of Commerce. “It is very gratifying to have this new opportunity to move his agenda forward in growing our economy for hardworking Kansas families,” Jordan said. Stanley Ahlerich, the governor’s previous executive director of the economic advisory council, was arrested during February in Shawnee County for allegedly driving under the influence. The appointment of Williams will require confirmation by the Kansas Senate.
