‘Cash-dogs’, metal detectors installed at airport to detect fake currency, gold

KARACHI: The Customs Colletorate Preventive has made effective measures to curb smuggling of gold and foreign currency at Jinnah International Airport.

Chief Collector-Enforcement South Muhammad Zahid Khokhar has written to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan, stating that the Pakistan Customs has trained the “cash dogs” which are kept at the Enforcement and Operational Center of the Customs Preventive near the airport.

In the letter, the chief collector informed the chairman that the “cash-dogs” have been deployed at arrival and departure lounges of the airport to sniff fake currency on time.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs, while following the directives of the FBR high-ups, had got trained the “cash-dogs”, which are capable of smelling fake currency from the baggage of the passengers.

Sources said that the customs officials got the sniff dogs trained in six months, adding that four “cash-dogs” have been deployed at airport in first phase while four others would be brought to the airport in the second phase.

Sources further said that the metal detectors containing latest technology have also been installed at the arrival and departure lounges of the airport for detecting gold biscuits and other gold ornaments.

It may be mentioned here that the officials of Pakistan Customs at airport have done splendid job during a week or so in connection with successful seizures of smuggled gold and foreign currency.
