Shipping Ministry launched six mega projects at Port Qasim during five years: Hasil Bazenjo

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Ports and Shipping launched six mega projects at Port Qasim at a cost of Rs 2,378.9 million during the last five years.

The major projects included LNG Fast Track project by Engro, PIBT-Coal and Clinker / Cement Terminal on BOT basis, PQEP 1,320 MW Coal Fired Power Plant with self-use jetty, establishment of second LNG Terminal by Pakistan Gas Port Limited, Coal Terminal at Marginal Wharf 3 & 4 as well as Conveyor Belt from PIBT to Railway Network.

According to Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Bazenjo, two projects including LNG Fast Track project and Coal Terminal at Marginal Wharf 3 and 4 are being executed on Build Operate Transfer (BOT) basis. Therefore, the cost of the projects has to be borne by the developers. Remaining projects are being constructed under Public Service Development Program and funds have been allocated.

The LNG Fast Track project was commissioned on March 29, 2015 and PQA has handled 50 LNG Vessels so far. PIBT – Coal and Clinker / Cement Terminal project is under final stage of installation of machinery, equipment etc.

The PQEP -1320 MW Coal Fired Power Plant with self-use jetty project is under construction and will be completed by March, 2017.

As per decision of ECNEC, the conveyor belt from PIBT to Railway Network project is to be completed by March 2017. Currently, the bids submitted by the firms are being evaluated.
