Customs Court sends suspect to jail in mis-declaration case

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Wednesday sent a suspect, Waseem Khan, to Central Jail Karachi. Khan was arrested in a case of mis-declaration.

During the hearing, Investigation Officer Ashfaq-ur-Rehman produced the suspect before the court and stated that in compliance of the arrest warrants issued on October 15, 2016 by this court, the absconding accused, who is the owner of M/s Jacquard International Karachi, was arrested on November 19, 2016.

After hearing the arguments, the court sent the suspect to the jail and directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation and submit a charge sheet on the next hearing. The other suspects in the case, Shah Rukh Jamal, Nauman Abdul Rauf and Arif Humayun, are on bail.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered against the suspects under section 16, 32 (1), 32 (2) 32A, and 79 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 9, 14, 14A, and 46 of section 156 (1) of the customs act 1969 read with import & export (control) act, 1950.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rasdhi is conducting hearing of pending cases on daily basis. Sources told Customs Today that due to regular hearing there is marginable decrease in customs related cases.
