LANDI KOTAL: The trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained suspended as Pakistani and Afghan transporters continued their wheel-jam strike at Torkham against imposition of ‘illegal’ taxes on their vehicles.
Less than 100 vehicles were cleared by the Pakistan Customs on Wednesday that had reached the border crossing prior to the stat of wheel jam strike. The cleared vehicles were mostly loaded with perishable food items and construction material. The contractors both at Karachi port and truck terminals suspended further loading of vehicles, carrying Pakistani export items and imports for Afghanistan under the Afghan Transit Trade Treaty.
The Afghan transporters observed a total wheel jam strike and no vehicle from Afghan side crossed over into Pakistan on the second day of their strike.
Meanwhile, officials of the political administration said that they were ready to accept legitimate demands of the striking truckers.
