Automation will bring transparency in customs clearance process: Chief Collector Samaira Nazir

LAHORE: Chief Collector of Customs Central Samaira Nazir has said that automation system will ensure transparency in the customs clearance process.

She also said that the anti-smuggling scouts across the central region would be given tablets to strengthen vigilance system. The customs central region has introduced Customs Management Information System in collaboration with the Punjab Board of Information Technology. She said that android phone applications would play a pivotal role in improving the customs operations against smugglers besides effective monitoring of the customs staff by the senior customs officials. Sources said that the customs top officials have made it mandatory for the customs patrolling staff to send photographs of the seized items then and there to ensure transparency.

Sources said that initially the Customs Preventive has implemented the automated monitoring system to check smugglers and later the model would be implemented in other collectorates of the customs central region.

Earlier, Collector of Customs Zulfiqar Younas told Customs Today that the Collectorate of Customs Appraisement has not only been working on the physical training of the customs officials, but also imparting them training to operate weapons and other related tools.

The Collector of Customs Preventive has been very actively moving on to digitalize various sections of the customs Collectorate Lahore. In this connection, he has not only implemented digital monitoring of the Customs House but also initiated a process to implement automated monitoring system at the Customs State Warehouse and airport.
