Pakistan Customs to get sniffer dogs trained from UK

KARACHI: Customs authorities have decided to take extra ordinary steps to stop illegal circulation of the dollar through unfair means.

According to the sources, the federal government has directed the customs and law enforcement agencies including Customs Intelligence and Investigations for taking concrete measures to cope up with the currency smuggling.

The sources informed that the Pakistan Customs has twenty four sniffer dogs used for the sniffing at the entry and exits check posts but are not capable of sensing currency whereas they only detect drugs during the checking.

The quantity of the sniffer dogs needs to be enhanced as well as special training is very much important for the dogs deputed at the airports. Now it has been decided that the dogs will be trained from the foreign country, the source added.

The source further stated that the customs authorities are in talk with the officials of the United Kingdom for the training of the sniffer dogs with regards to checking of the currency at the security check posts. The sniffer dogs are being used at the moment are only able to sniff and sense drugs and are not much trained.

In searching process of the luggage the dogs during the snuffing action destroys the bags and the crotons of the passengers that results embarrassing to the officers, informed the source.

Due to the special training the sniffer dogs of the United Kingdom during the search of the drugs detects the threat and sit besides the luggage and starts barking after which the officers examines the selected bag or the crotons, acknowledged the source.

Appreciating the efforts and the hard work of the customs officers deputed at the entry and exit check post the source said that the customs officer are performing their duties in well manner due to which many illegal activities have been busted and the culprits are behind the bars.
