ISLAMABAD: Custom’s Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized non-duty paid goods worth Rs 2.53 million along with offending vehicle from Islamabad territory.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that on the advice of Collector Dr Arslan, the ASO is performing with better techniques to control smuggling in the jurisdiction of the collectorate.

He said that in pursuance of information received from sources, the ASO intercepted the offending vehicle Isuzu bus bearing registration No.LZR-1758 and seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods from GT Road near Chungi No 26. After the interception of the vehicle, the ASO staff asked the owner of the smuggled goods to provide relevant documents but he failed to show any proof regarding the goods.
Shahid Jan said that ASO staff seized the smuggled vehicle worth Rs 1.5 million as well as 600 dandas of foreign origin Pine cigarettes worth Rs 0.252 million.
He added that the ASO also seized 100 dandas of foreign origin Milano cigarettes worth Rs 0.042 million, and 147 kilogram velvet cloth worth Rs 0.077 million besides other goods. The deputy collector said that an FIR has been lodged against the owner under the Customs Acts and further investigations are underway.
