AMSTERDAM: In order to give a boost to Poland’s export and sale of peppers, the Polish Association of Pepper Producers is asking the Ministry of Agriculture to approve the use of a special label and to register it in the EU. “This would be an extremely important contribution from the point of view of the development of exports,” reported Mirosław Łuska, president of the Association of Pepper Producers, to the news service www.portalspozywczy.pl.

He added that the large majority of Polish peppers end up on the shelves of retail chains, with only a small part intended for export (although this is planned to change), and the rest for processing.

“We want to develop exports. We are trying to sell to the EU countries, given our limitations in the Eastern market because of the embargo, even though we also sell to other countries on the eastern border,” stated the president of the Association of Pepper Producers.

In his opinion, the European markets have room to absorb pepper imports, and the Polish market is quite close. “Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia are closer to us than Spain or Greece, where the production of peppers is not large enough to meet the needs of the entire EU market,” added Mirosław Łuska.
