DG Customs Shaukat Ali directs stern action against M/s Farooq Corporation for mis-declaration

ISLAMABAD: DG Customs Intelligence and Investigation Shaukat Ali directed Customs I&I Karachi authorities to take stern action against M/s Farooq Corporation due to company’s involvement in mis-declaration. He also directed them to check the consignments cleared by M/s Farooq Corporation during previous two years and make a contravention report in this regard.

Additional Director Abdul Waheed Marwat told Customs Today that director general is very much concerned about the case and he strictly passed orders to scrutinize all the record of M/s Farooq Corporation. He said that if any official of the Customs Department is found involved, he will have to face criminal charges and his name would be included in FIRs.

He said only reputable and credible companies can use yellow channel facility. He said that the Customs Intelligence authorities are investigating the matter, at the movement two FIRs have been lodged against M/s Farooq Corporation, one from Customs Intelligence and Investigation (enforcement) and the 2nd FIR is from Customs Appraisement collectorate.

He said that “we are waiting for customs court decision in this regard.” After verdict of court, the Customs Department will conduct further investigations, because one FIR will be withdrawn, he said.

He disclosed that the director general has also brought this matter into the notice of Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan. He said that the chairman also directed to adopt zero tolerance policy against companies involved in mis-declaration and tax evasion. He directed to recover the evaded amount of taxes and duties from the company.

Abdul Waheed Marwat said this is a case of mis-declaration and “we will recover each and every penny of evaded duty and taxes from M/s Farooq Corporation.”
