Pakistan allows import of raw cotton from India after one month

LAHORE: Pakistan has once again allowed import of cotton from India through Land Freight Unit (LFU) Wagha as Plant Protection Department has allowed the import.

According to sources of Customs Today, Pakistan had suspended import of cotton from India last month when more then 2000 bails of raw cotton were barred to enter in Pakistan. Those bails of raw cotton were reached near to Pakistan border and were ready to cross international border but due to escalation on line of control Pakistani high officials stopped that loaded trucks to enter in Pakistan.

Informed sources in the textile sector told that high officials of the Plant Protection department, which is functioning under federal ministry of food security, have issued verbal orders to the staff to allow import cotton again.

Pakistan textile industry has showed pleasure on this step because quite a number of textile industries were forced to shut because of shortage of raw material and high price of local crop.

The sources in plant protection department said that import of cotton without proper permits were banned but now number of new orders have placed for import from India.
