No extension in date for filing tax returns, FBR chief tells Senate body

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan has again ruled out extension in date of filing tax returns, which has expired on December 15.

The FBR chief, during a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Finance, said that last year the government extended deadline for filing of tax return till March.

“But we have decided that this year there would be no extension in filing of tax return date after Dec 15.”

The committee was informed that the system for filing tax returns has been simplified and the number of complaints has also reduced to a greater extent. “Simplification is the ongoing process and would continue in the coming years as well,” he added.

The committee was chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla but the proceedings of the meeting were deferred due to a lack of quorum, and eventually there was no discussion over the Economic Reforms Bill and the Benami Transactions law as only Senator Fateh Muhammad Hassani of the PPP showed up.
