Suspect sentenced till rising of court in non-duty paid car case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi convicted the accused person Aslam Parwez Rahopoto till rising of the court and put Rs 100,000 fine. Rahopoto was booked in a seizure case of non-customs paid Toyota Hilux Surf.

During the hearing, the suspect was present in the court on interim bail and filed an application for pleading guilty. After the arguments, the court sentenced the suspect till rising of the court with Rs 100,000 fine.

According to the prosecution, on September 30, 2016, the staff of the model customs collectorate of preventive anti-smuggling organization NWF wharf Karachi intercepted a Toyota Hilux Surf bearing registration no CD 2784 model 1993 being smuggled and non-customs duty paid.

As per the First Information Report, after the formalities, officials of the customs authorities seized the same vehicle and registered a case against the suspect under section 156 (1) (8) & (89) of the Customs Act, 1969.
