Faisalabad ASO seizes huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs2m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized non duty paid smuggled electronic goods worth Rs20,00,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 5,63,897 during an action. ASO also impounded Mazda mini truck worth Rs 18,00,000 under section 157 which was being used for smuggling transportation.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Saeed Asad received credible information about some smuggling attempts. He immediately constituted a raiding team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor, Mahmood Ahmad Dogar, Ali Zahid, Sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Yaseen, Liaqat Ali and Muhammad Ashraf.

The team intercepted a Mazda mini truck bearing registration no. LEI-15-224 near Shahkot Toll Plaza and recovered deep fryer breville, steam iron brand Morphy Richards, cookworks, colom match, argos, belender active and blender and Grinder brand Hinari, electric kettle brand colom match, Breville, Russel Hobbs cap vaccum cleaner brand Bosch, Dyson and others different brand items.

The aso team asked the accused person namely Waseem Abbas son of Mazhar Hussain to provide legal documents documents regarding legal import of the items. But, he could not produce any documents in respect of the goods.

Therefore, the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws. A case has been registered against accused person. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
