KARACHI: The sit-in of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) employees for restoration of son quota entered 24th day on Thursday.
The KPT employees continued to protest in front of KPT Building located on Eduljee Dinshaw Road for their demands.
According to details, the KPT workers demanded that the authorities concerned restore son-quota and medical facilities for retired employees.
Son-Quota Restoration Movement Chairman Lala Nazeer told Customs Today that the workers would not end their sit-in until the fulfillment of their legal demands, adding that the employees were struggling for the restoration of the quota.
“KPT management had not been recruited a single employee on son-quota since 1996 despite the clear directives of former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in the year 2012”, he added.
He said that more than 100 recruitments have been made on political basis since 1996, but not a single employee was recruited on son-quota basis.
He said that KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui had stopped the medical facilities of the retired KPT employees.
Other labour unions, including Awami Welfare Association, Lyari United Workers Association and Katchi Workers Association also joined the sit-in.
