HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligences and Investigation has seized-16,000 litres smuggled diesel worth Rs1.21 million along with an oil tanker valuing Rs3 million during a successful operation.
Sources told Customs Today that on special instructions of Directorate General Shaukat Ali the customs intelligence has started crackdown against smugglers.
The director received information regarding the smuggling of oil in the city. On this he formed a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, and other.
The team formed check posts at main entry and exit point of the city and started the checking of vehicles. During the checking vehicles the team intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration no SWN-133 on Super Highway near Toll Plaza Hyderabad.
During the checking of the tanker the team found 16,000 litre non-duty paid high speed diesel. Teh team asked the driver to provide legal documents regarding the import of oil but he remained failed to produce the same. On this the team confiscated the oil along with oil tanker
The customs team an oil and tanker were taken into the custody and FIR was lodged under sections 2 (s) 16 and 157 of the customs Act, 1969.
Meanwhile, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized foreign origin 24 bundles of decoration light jahler valued Rs760,000 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs.454, 843 during a raid in Hyderabad.
Following the instructions of Karachi Customs Intelligence Director Feroz Alam Junejo, the field investigation FIU Hyderabad Unit is taking stern action against the smugglers in the region. Officials said all possible measures are being taken to save national economy from the illegal trade.
As per details, the intelligence officials, including Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, received some report that foreign origin of non-duty paid decoration light on the vehicle was being transported to Hyderabad from Lahore. The officials conducted a raid and confiscated the light.
The intelligence team, comprising Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, sepoys and driver, set up a checkpost at the exit point of the city. The officials intercepted the vehicle near Halanaka, Hyderabad, for checking that led to the recovery of foreign origin 24 bundles of decoration light jahler.
