Tax collection witnesses 35pc growth in Punjab during first half of financial year 2016-17

LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Ayesha Ghous Pasha visited the Punjab Revenue Authority on Monday to review the revenue collection measures.

Punjab Revenue Authority Chairman Dr Raheel Ahmad Siddiqui welcomed the minister and briefed her on the tax collection matters. He said that there is visible improvement in the tax collection this year as compared to the previous year. The first half of the financial year 2016-17 witnessed 35 percent growth in revenue collection.

He said that the tax net is increasing but the authority is facing problems in collecting taxes from advertising agencies and channels because most of them are operating and disseminating their services from Karachi, which is out of the jurisdiction of the authority.

The end consumer lies in Punjab, but Punjab does not have share in it. He said, “We are in contact with stakeholders and soon modalities will be finalized in their regard.” The chairman expressed his resolve to further increase the tax net. He said, “We are using all available resources to meet the revenue collection target assigned for the fiscal year 2016-17.”
