Rs 579.212m released for agriculture development

ISLAMABAD: The government has so far released Rs 579.212 million for different developmental projects of Ministry of National Food Security and Research under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), 2016-17 for the uplift of agriculture sector of the country.

According the latest data released by the Planning Commission of Pakistan, the government had allocated Rs. 1545.700 million for the development of agri-sector during fiscal year 2016-17. An amount of Rs. of 179.292 million has released for research for agriculture development programme as against the allocation of 428.229 million for the current fiscal year. In order to fulfil the domestic requirements of the edible oil, the government has released Rs. 117.500 million for the promotion of olive cultivation on commercial scale in the country as against the total allocation of Rs. 300 million for current fiscal year.

Under the development programme, the government has released Rs.80 million for indigenization of hybrid seed production to enhance per acre crop production.

An amount of Rs. 20 million has been released for Pak-China cooperation for agriculture research and development as against the total allocation of Rs. 50 million for current financial year. Rs. 40 million was released for national pesticides resides residues monitoring system in the country as the government has earmarked Rs. 100 million for the project. So far, the government has released Rs. 17.958 million for monitoring of crop through satellite technology to provide latest information about crops to farmers as Rs. 44.9 million has allocated for the project.

In order to promote and develop the agriculture sector of Balochistan, the government has released Rs. 13.644 million for the establishment of horticulture research institute, Khuzdar against the total allocation of Rs. 34 million.

Under PSDP, 2016-17 an amount of Rs. 14.570 million has released for establishment of livestock research institute in Turbat Balochistan for livestock development in the province.
