Customs Intelligence approaches magistrate in Mercedes case

ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi Customs intelligence and Investigation Directorate General has filed an application before area Magistrate Ghulam Muhammad Sarfraz to hand over non duty paid vehicle impounded by police officials.

According to customs official, a Mercedes impounded by police station Morgah Rawalpindi under section 170 of the Customs Act 1969,read with verdict of Supreme Court in Crpc 802 of 2015 and CP No.22 of 2016.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation submitted, that the preliminarily investigation revealed that said vehicle Mercedes Benz, Modal 2005 bearing registration No NG-320.impounded by any other law enforcing agency. Customs department claim that the above mentioned vehicle shall be handed over to the department without un-necessary delay.

According to Section 170 of Customs Act 1969, when any contraband thing confiscated under this act or seized by any police officer on suspicion, he may carry them to any police station or court.

In such cases, the police officer seizes the smuggled items and sends written notice to nearest customs house. After immediately dismissal of the complaint or the conclusion of the inquiry or trial the relevant police station may order to hand over the non-customs paid Mercedes to the directorate of customs intelligence. On this now the department claim that to hand over the vehicle to department concerned.
