Senate Standing Committee on Ports discusses ongoing projects

Islamabad: Senate Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping held a meeting in which discussed that there is daily 500 million gallon contaminated water is falling in Karachi Sea and due to its adverse effects not only marine life but humans are also suffering.

Two million gallon per day water desalination plant Gawadar could not run more than two months and desalinated only one and half million gallons per day while it was operational. Chairman Gawadar port told to committee that the project failed due to technical fault.

According to details, the summery of amendment in Karachi Port Trust Act has been sent to Ministry of Law. The committee also reviewed the implementation process of previous recommendations and decisions of the committee. The secretary Ports and Shipping told the East bay project is most important and this will link port to national high way. China will provide full funding for this project and soon the Chinese company will start work on this project. Two way railway track and six lines express way are also part of this project.

Sources told Customs Today that meeting of Committee held under the chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Ali Saif at Parliament House. Chairman KPT told to committee that KPT has 1600 Acres land vacant which includes 350 Acres land at Clifton Beach and 16 Acres at Hawks Bay.

Senators Muhammad Ali Saif, Kulsum Parveen, Mir Kabir Ahmad, Muhammad Shahi, Muhammad Yousuf, Taj Haider, Muhammad Daud Khan Achakzai, Secretary Ports and Shipping Khalid Pervez, Chairman Karachi Port Trust Vice Admiral Shafqat, Chairman Gawadar Port Authority Dostan Khan Jamaldini and other senior officials attended the meeting.
