Customs Court grants bail to suspect involved in mis-declaration

KARACHI: The Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court has granted bail to a suspect, Shah Rukh Tahir, Chief Executive Officer of M/s Barry International (Private) Limited. The suspect was booked in a case of mis-declaration and violation of copyright act.

During the hearing, counsel for the accused filed a bail application and argued that the accused is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case. He requested the court to grant him bail. After hearing the arguments, the court granted bail to the suspect against the surety bonds of Rs 200,000.

On the last hearing, FIA Inspector M Rashid Bhutti appeared and submitted an application for a three-day remand of the accused under section 167 and stated that he was admitted to a hospital and was not in a position to appear before the court. He also produced the accused’s medical certificate, therefore, the court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand. The investigation officer submitted the interim charge sheet along with an application, seeking further time to submit a final charge sheet. Therefore, the court allowed his application and 15 days’ time granted for the final charge sheet.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered against the suspect under section 15, 156 (1) (9) customs act 1969 read with section 66, 66 A, 71 of copyright ordinance 1962.
