RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered a hefty amount of Rs285 billion since its inception and deposited it in the national exchequer said Chairman NAB, Qamar Zaman Chaudhary.
Addressing traders during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Thursday he said, elimination of terrorism from the country has improved business activities besides overall security situation.
He said, the business community is playing a pivotal role for economic development of the country and all economic indicators are positive. NAB is making efforts to eradicate corruption from the society, he added.
He said that the recovery figures are indicative of the hard work being put in by all ranks ofNAB staffin an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty.
He added that the Bureau has chalked out a comprehensive National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) for eradication of corruption and corrupt practices in the country. Corruption is affecting the country just like cancer, he observed.
Awareness and prevention of corruption is a challenging task and as a Pakistanis it is our moral duty to spread awareness regarding the ill effects of the menace all the segments of the society should play an active role for the eradication of corruption from the country,he said.
He said, increase in the number of complaints also reflects enhanced public trust in the NAB. The Chairman said, NAB with improved infrastructure and rationalized workload; timelines have been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases. He said, NAB has devised a centralized monitoring mechanism to ensure compliance with the SOPs and prescribed timelines.
The Chairman NAB said, the Bureau strongly believes in Zero Tolerance Policy against Corruption.
NAB hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption and corrupt practices before happening with the help of all stakeholders, civil society, media and people at large and bring sustainable systematic changes to the governance structure of our country,the chairman said.
On the occasion, President RCCI Raja Amir Iqbal also addressed the traders while senior vice president RCCI, Rashid Wai, vice president Asim Malik, group leaders, Sheikh Shabbir, Sohail Altaf, S.M.Naseem, former presidents, Aman ullah Khan, S.M.Azeem, Najam Rehan, Jalil Ahmed Malik, Kashif Shabbir, Syed Ali Raza, Dr. Shamial Dawood, Asad Mashdi, Mian Hamyoun Pervaiz and a large number of traders were present.
