Amended Customs General Order advises safety for anti-smuggling dept

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has brought about amendments in the Customs General Order No: 12 of 2002 dated 15th of June 2002. The new clause inserted in the order says that the seized bullet-proof jackets will be allocated by respective Collector of Customs/Director (Regional Directorate of Director General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR) to an agency of department having anti-smuggling powers.

According to details, Collector Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad Dr. Arslan said the FBR has amended the Customs General Order (CGO) regarding the disposal of seized bullet proof jackets. Now the board has accepted the request and made amendment in the CGO.

He said that on the request of the Collectorate the FBR has amended the CGO, adding that in the aforesaid order in paragraph 34 in sub-para (a) after clause (viii).A, the new clause namely (viii-B) shall be inserted.

He said that before the said new clause there was no clause in the CGO for disposal of confiscated bullet proof jackets, adding that unchanged CGO has clauses to dispose of the confiscated goods if the ASO seizes any type of ammunition which will be handed over to the armed forces. And if ASO seizes liquor or illegal drugs then they will be destroyed, he added.

He said according to the amended CGO the Collector of Customs or Directorate General I&I can distribute the bullet proof jackets for the office use. The collector said the seized jackets will be provide to the customs staff of the Air Freight Unit entry gates, anti-smuggling squads and the security staff of the Islamabad Dry Port.

The collector said the morale of the customs squads will be boosted in this way and they will be able to handle the culprits with more vigour and confidence.
