Customs airport collects Rs 39.8m during first half of FY2016-17

ISLAMABAD: Customs officials deployed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport collected Rs 39.8 million by seizing goods during the first half of the financial year (from July to December) 2016-17

Deputy Collector Airport Naghma-e-Tehenat told Customs Today that in pursuance of instruction of Collector Dr Arslan the customs airport staff performed efficiently and prevented smuggling through airport.

She said that during July 2016-17, the customs staff seized four consignments of smuggling worth Rs 25.7 million and arrested four accused, adding that during October 2016-17 the customs officials collected Rs 14.1 million by seizing mobile phones. Three suspects were arrested in the incident.

Deputy collector said that in calendar year 2016 customs officials collected revenue Rs 85.16 million by confiscating miscellaneous goods and arrested 16 accused in different cases.

She added that the customs airport staff collected revenue Rs 45.36 million during first half of previous calendar year (January-June 2016) and arrested 9 accused in different cases of smuggling through airport.
