Customs Court grants bail to suspect involved in tax evasion

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim bail to Abbas Ismail son of Ismail Jee who was booked in a case of tax evasion of Rs 174,339.

On Monday, during the hearing, the accused appeared before the court along with his counsel and filed the bail application. The counsel for the accused argued that his client was innocent and was falsely implicated in this case. The counsel said his client was ready to face trail, therefore, the court may grant him bail.

After the arguments, the court granted him bail subject to furnishing solvent surety in the sum of Rs 100,000. The court also issued notice to the special prosecutor Custom Department and called police file for January 18, 2017.

It needs to be mention here that the court had also granted bail to another accused namely Naveed Usman son of Usman.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against the above named accused persons in violation of section 32 (1) (2) 32A 79 & 80 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 14, 14A & 42 of section 156 (i) ibid.
