Tribunal hears references against Customs Intelligence and Investigation

ISLAMABAD: Two benches of the Customs Appellate Tribunal heard various customs references filed against Model Collectorate of Customs and Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad, during third week of January.

A single bench of the tribunal comprising member, Syed Muhammad Anwar and another bench Syed Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Nasir Khan heard the matters.

Member, Syed Muhammad Anwar, adjourned the hearing of cases filed by M/s Lucky Enterprises, Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain. All of these cases were filed in 2016.

M/s Lucky Enterprises had challenged a customs duty assessment sustained by the adjudication.

Haq Nawaz and Wasif Hussain had filed cases regarding release of vehicles which were seized by customs authorities amid attempt to smuggling various items.

They had filed cases against customs Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad. The bench adjourned hearing of these cases till next week.

A division bench of Customs Appellate Tribunal dated in office hearing of a customs reference filed by M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited. The company had challenged an announcement made by the Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad.

Members Tribunal, Syed Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Nasir Khan heard the matter and dated in office hearing after submission of detailed records of customs case by the departmental lawyer.

During previous hearings the bench had directed the respondent’s counsels to submit detailed record on the case before the bench.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited had filed the case against Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad in 2016.

Through the petition, the company had challenged a decision announced by the adjudication for sustaining claims of recoverable customs duty of around Rs 40 million.

The tribunal had held the hearing last week and told the counsels to ensure their presence on the next hearing. The tribunal had issued the directives through assisting counsels who had appeared instead of the main counsels.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited’s plea 144/CU/IB/2016 was filed in the recent month. According to tribunal’s officials, the case involved a huge amount in head of taxes.
