WASHINGTON: A U.S. citizen was caught with more than 38 pounds of cocaine at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint near Yuma on Wednesday, officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said. A narcotics-detection dog alerted officers to the vehicle at the checkpoint, officials said. Agents then discovered the $437,000 worth of drugs hidden in the vehicle’s frame.
Additional details were not immediately available. Separately, more than $100,000 worth of marijuana was found Saturday by Customs and Border Protection officers at the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry in Douglas. The 200 pounds of marijuana was being transported by a 53-year-old unidentified Mexican man, official said. Officers seized the drugs hidden inside the Ford SUV and turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
