Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 80,2700

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled goods worth Rs80, 2700 involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs139574 under the Customs Act, 1969.

As per details, Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information regarding smuggling attempts on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Mansha Mehmood ul Hassan Havaldar, and sepoys Ghulam Sarwar, Muhammad Feroz, and Said Rasool.

The team intercepted a trailer bearing registration no: JV-0386 near Khanser Toll Plaza district Bhakkar, Mianwali. That vehicle loaded with foreign origin corn starch 100 bags (2500 kilograms), made in India, and foreign origin sulphonic acid loaded in 6 drums (1260 kilograms ). The above said loaded goods were being transported from Karachi to Rawalpindi throug  the above mentioned trailer. The driver of the said trailer namely Qaiser Nisar son of Nisar Ahmed failed to show any relevant documents regarding transportation and possession of goods.

The driver of the vehicle only produced some bilties and copy of GDs relating to the other items of foreign and local products. The same were examined and it was found that the other loaded goods were imported against the supplied copy of GDs as well as local product.

The ASO team after finding some discrepancies seized the goods and forwarded the case to customs adjudication for further proceedings. Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan has appreciated the performance of the Mianwali ASO, which foiled various smuggled bids in the region.
