FAISALABAD: Sargodha Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has foiled a smuggling attempt and confiscated non-duty paid ceramic tiles worth Rs637,212 involving duty and taxes of Rs174,188 and impounded the offending Mazda truck Rs1 million.
Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received credible information regarding transportation of smuggled items. He immediately formed a special team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Bashir Hussain, Bashir Ahmed, Sepoys Muhammad Mansha, Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Iqbal to foil the smuggling attempt.
The ASO team started checking vehicles near Bhalwal Road district Sargodha. During checking the ASO team intercepted a Mazda mini truck bearing registration no JU-1673 loaded with 613 meters foreign origin ceramic tiles. The team asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the ceramic tiles.
The driver, who was later identified as Bilal Rashid son of Abdul Rashid residential Budla Sanat Tehsil and District, Multan having CNIC No, 36302-4079083-1, remained failed to provide any required document. After his failure the ASO team confiscated the loaded tiles along with the offending vehicle.
The ASO team registered a case of smuggling against the accused under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 and forwarded the case to the customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
