WASHINGTON: The Aklan provincial government will develop a port for cargo boats and barge in Barangay Manocmanoc of this resort island. Jetty Port Administrator Niven Maquirang said the development was part of the agreement between the provincial government and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA). PPA just recently signed a memorandum of agreement, giving the authority to the province to manage its ports.
Part of the development, Maquirang said, was the construction of two ramps for the docking of boats. He said the PPA had already surveyed the location of the proposed port development. Once completed, the port will be turned over to the Department of Transportation and Communication and later to Aklan Provincial Government. Once the jurisdiction is given to the provincial government, it can already decide if the port operation will be turned over to the Local Government Unit of Malay and to Barangay Manoc-Manoc. The said port development will be beneficial for the business sector because of the easy transport of goods and commodities to the island.
