FBR reviews transit trade progress on Torkham-Chamman borders

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FRB) reviews overall progress of the Pakistan and Afghanistan Transit Trade as well as facilitation on Torkhum and Chamman border-crossings.

According to source, a high level meeting was held at the Directorate of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to review the expenditures of 12billion rupees to provide better facilities to exporters and importers and curb the smuggling.

The project to set up a modern customs dry port on Torkhum border was also discussed during the meeting for increasing trade and providing job opportunities to the locals. A target of five billion dollars has been set for the income from import and export in near future, the source added.

The meeting was also attended by Director General, Intelligence and Investigation, Chief Collector North, Collector, Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Peshawar, and Collector, Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), along with other senior officers, the source informed.

During the meeting, construction of facilitation centre on Torkhum and Chaman borders as well as the bid foiled by the National Logistic Corporation was also discussed. After the construction of the facilitation centre on both bordering areas, the transit trade activity will boost and the traffic flow will also improve.
