FBR Chairman Dr Irshad praises 22.6pc growth in customs duty from July 2016 to Jan 2017

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Dr. Muhammad Irshad has said it is very encouraging to observe that so far from July 16, 2016 to January 2017 there is a growth of 22.6 percent of customs duty and an overall growth of 10.6 percent in all import related taxes.

Though these figures are good yet to achieve revenue target of current financial year (2016-2017) we have to increase our efforts. Chairman FBR Dr. Muhammad Irshad was addressing the collector conference at Federal Board of Revenue. Collectors Conference was attended by the chief collectors, director generals and collectors from allover Pakistan.

Sources said after assuming the charge of chairman FBR, it was his first formal interaction with the senior management of Customs Department.

Addressing the participants of conference he welcomed the chief collectors, director generals, collectors and said “I hope and expect that not only this trend will continue, rather I would urge you all to surpass the next five months target. Importance of your collection, import, sales tax and withholding tax is very much besides the customs duties are very significant.

He said I have plans for near future that I will visit different Customs formations for closer interactions with you all. If you have any issue regarding the administrative or any other nature my doors are always open for all of you. He urges the senior management of Customs that they should take every possible measure to increase the revenue and curb the menace of corruption.
